Names

Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given,

and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

BSF had me work through this verse asking me to explain in my own words the meaning of the names of Isaiah 9:6:

Wonderful Counselor: The One who I will receive True sound counsel.

Mighty God: He is stronger than anything or anyone. He is mighty to hold me, to carry my burdens, to lift me up out of the slimy pit to save me.  

Everlasting Father: Never will He leave me nor forsake me, he loves me unconditionally forever.  

Prince of Peace: Provider of hope, calm, steadfastness in Him, when I drink in Him, I will/do find my rest and peace in Him.  Stillness, no matter what the circumstances I face.

How do these names give me hope instead of fear for today and for the future? 

No matter what I face, the Lord is my counselor.  He provides true counsel through His Word. He lifts me up out of the slimy pit to save me and carry my burdens. He never leaves me and loves me unconditionally.  He offers complete rest in Him no matter what I may be facing.
